2022 Theme:
Sustainability in Engineering

The WE Local London Poster Competition provides undergraduate and postgraduate students with the opportunity to present their research and projects as a visual poster presentation to a broad audience during the in-person conference. Students gain insight and receive live feedback and encouragement from others within the STEM fields.

This year’s theme – Sustainability in Engineering – aims to highlight the important role that engineers and technologists play in designing a more sustainable future.

To participate, students should submit their poster abstract online via the below link. All submissions will be judged by industry professionals and the top entries will be invited to present their poster in person at the 2022 WE Local London conference.

Frequently Asked Questions

University students who are in undergraduate or postgraduate programs are welcome to participate, including researchers and MSc students. All disciplines are welcome.

Participating in a poster competition is an opportunity to showcase your work to a professional audience. Those who are selected to exhibit their poster on site will benefit from instant feedback and encouragement, as well as the practice of introducing their project to conference attendees. It is an opportunity to be recognized in your field and bring attention to your work.

Participants will also have the opportunity to participate in the conference by attending inspirational keynote talks, educational breakout sessions, the networking exhibition with leading engineering and technology firms, and more.

Those who are selected to present their posters in London will receive free entry to the conference and, for those outside of the London area, a stipend to offset travel costs (up to 200 GBP).

At the conference, attendees will vote for the best poster and the overall winner will be invited on stage at the closing plenary to receive their award.

As of December 2021, SWE expects to host the conference in-person. If public health precautions require that the event transition to a virtual platform, we will work with the selected poster presenters to move the exhibition to the virtual event space. Participants should expect the same benefits of participation, whether in-person or virtual.

After being selected to exhibit your poster in London, SWE will provide a digital poster template which you will complete with all of the corresponding information. You will provide your digital file to the event organizers prior to the event and they will have it printed for the on-site exhibition. The poster size will be about A0 (33.11 x 46.81 in; 841 x 1189 mm).
